Grundig SO 121 Left Stereo Channel weak

Hi,

I just had the tube unit recapped but did not do anything to the phonograph. FM, AM, etc and one phono setting are in MOno. The mono radio portion works perfect (I can't seem to notice the static when changing the volume).

However, when I use the PHONO stereo setting the left channel is very weak and there is a little static when you change the volume level but the right is 100% perfect. When I use the phonograph on the mono setting the volume is correct but I hear static when changing the volume on both sepakers.

Any thoughts? Weak tube?

thanks.

Just some general thoughts from someone who knows NOTHING about that unit--
Try the following--set the FM to stereo--find a strong signal--If audio volume is OK on both channels, you probably have phono cartridge or (if used)phono pre-amp problems.
"Noise" is probably a dirty volume control "pot". I would suggest you use DeOxIt on it. If one channel is weaker on the FM--you can try swapping tubes--one at a time from one channel to the other--but you may also have other problems, that a plain "re-cap" job did not help--Have fun--be safe-- Ron Rich

This may have been made before FM stereo.

I would suspect the following:

- Tonearm wiring
- Muting switch (if equipped)
- Pickup cartridge
- Phono preamp (if equipped)

Try swapping the cables at the amp, and see if the trouble moves to the other side. If so, the trouble is in the turntable or wiring.
