Ami, what's the difference between 100 and 200 select

by fortytwo » Thu Aug 16, 2012 5:21 am

Hello,
I just bought a basket case ami continental. You may have seen it on eBay. I am missing the selector assy to be able to test it out. I have some questions about the mechanism.
If I were to find a assembly for a 200 box, can it be made to work.?
Since the record magazine is there, besides the selector button assy and pinwheel, what other parts differ from the 100 to the 200? I'm not concerned about the title display at this time, just mechanics and working. I've allways liked the look of the 100 but who wouldn't want more records.

I know I will have a really hard time finding parts but for the price I'm willing to take the risk, plus I know someone with a similar one that I can reference if I have to make a new front door and have it chromed. I do have a welder.

Thanks for your reply.
Ed

Ed,
Going from my great, but not too long,memory--you have just about named all the differences--mostly "cosmetic"--just short the ability to play another 100 selections. As for selector inter-changeability, which type "selector" are you speaking of?

If I want to use 100 records, I will needs the button "selector assembly" and trim that goes on the front door with the extra set of buttons on it.
If I were to get this and never get the rest of the parts to go to 100 records will it still be able to work for 50.

So in that case I think I'll start collecting the parts and just go for 100 records. I need the pin wheel, the front board, whatever that look,s like and the button assy which I already need.

Is it safe to assume that if I get a second 100 selection pinwheel I could take them apart and swap the pins to the original one.

Or even better? Would the pins and internal parts be the same for an easier to find pinwheel like 900 etc?

Hello,
It seems like I am asking to myself. I got a response from a eBay seller. The 900 mech is basically similar to the continental. The m does have the same pinwheel, part number verified. The 900 mech has some changes but a good handful of the mechanical parts cross over.

Should I create a new thread to get questions answered or just keep asking here to keep all this info together.

Is the selector unit the same from the 100 and 200, if not what's the difference , missing wires possibly? I have found no mention of is in the ami continental manual.

Howdy,
I just decided to document what I successfully done.
Minimum what you need to play 200 selections is:
100 pins for pin wheel and 50 springs.
Extra button bank with wiring and 9 pin housing. Extra wire and 9 pin housing for search assembly. I had two junk 100 selector assembly's I combined into one 200 and had the extra wire and housings to convert the search unit.
Lacing string.
200 select casting, button holder and buttons.

It isn't nessisary to get a popularity meter. My 100 was a 200 with a sticker over it BUT it was used because it was broke in manufacturing and therefore turned into a 100. So either a pop meter or 100 pop meter pins.
I am not putting basket decals on because ill just use the pop meter with a window with a line, and I prefer to 100 setup for the title board so I'm leaving that alone. I will post the a sides of records I have no spot for in the ami music spot.
