Yet another update.
It is all now working except it won't select any odd numbered tracks only evens. I think I have figured that it selects odds in one direction and evens in the other - is this correct?
I have manually loaded in both directions and have seen the arm move position and verified that it triggers the "track now playing" indicator switch but it won't pick any odd numbers at all.
I hate to keep asking but any ideas?

You have proven that everything except the write-in ( and amplifier) is working--
Check the SPU--The write-in is accomplished on that model (going from my memory--great, but not too long), by the rotating cam, and "fingers" that reach "down" to hit a bit of gold plated brass, that's imbedded into the cam. If I re-call right, those "fingers" loose tension, and fail to make contact --especially when they are "messed with". Note, the SPU motor must "run" to accomplish write in. If that is OK--check the ES (keyboard), along with the WI circuit in the control center.

I saw after my last post that you have solved the write in problem--was it that you did not check both sides while doing the battery-read-out test, or was there a problem in the write-in circuit--and if so, what did you find?
As for only playing one side--the side switching is done by the sensors that ride under the Tormat. If you have transported the jukebox, without bolting it down correctly, as per the manual, it is likely that you have damaged one or both sensors. See the Service Manual, Tormat Unit position, and Read-out contact block adjustments. Ron Rich

I think I had only ever entered odd numbers when I was trying it out before, I think this is the first time I tried an even number and it just worked.
When I did the battery tets it picked up every record but only on the b side, Is it suppossed to do both sides? I assume so as it sets every toroid - right?
I will look at that link you gave me, I bodged the amp earlier so I ran a cd in to the power stage - that works
Tested the coin mech too and that works as well.
At least we should be able to use it at Christmas, if I can't get a volume control by then I will jury rig a phono pre amp to the power amp via a standard pot.

Right again Ron! It was the Tormat, a tiny little wire that goes from the contact plunger to a terminal - broken but not obviously so, the meter found it! So I now have a nearly fully working box - not bad seeing as how I got it just a few days ago. I could see this getting adictive, they are wonderful machines, complex but fixable with the right help. I have to order a volume control but I will have to wait now until I have some more money. I have found the coin mech works ok, it uses old style 10 p pieces that went out of circulation about 12 years ago, fortunately I have a big stash of them so have been able to test. I get two plays for each coin not bad for this day and age

You have just proven that Read-Out and Sense works. The write-up on the site is tailored toward Black & gray box machines, where the write source voltage is indeed about +125 VDC. Since you have the manual, turn to the SCC6 schematic. Notice C3114. This is the Write-In capacitor. Measure the voltage across it, like I asked you to in my last response. it should measure about +300 VDC. If it does not, chances are you have a problem with C3104 or C3105, or with CR3108 or CR3109. Another possibility is that F3102 is blown. If the voltage is good, there could be a problem with the Write-In switch in the SPU (S4206). Check it to make sure that it's not gotten a buildup of carbon on it. Another possibility is the switches in the Selector. The contacts may have gotten dirty or a sludge buildup.

As to the amplifier, you probably have a SAM1 monaural amplifier. A 25 K pot will work. Connect one end to ground (J5104 pin 2), the other end to J5104 pin 4, and the slider to J5104 pin 1. The other two connections are taps for loudness compensation, which don't matter as long as you keep the amplifier at reasonable volume. They only have an affect at low volume.

Thanks Tony, that confirms more or less what I thought. I have never seen a pot drawn like on the Seeburg diagram though, nor 5 wires going to a single gang pot I will have a further play today, I can't go much further now until I get the two stylii I have ordered so will mainly work on cleaning up intil they arrive. Will find a 25K pot and see what happens.
