I have a Silvertone barn radio that someone took apart but didn't finish restoring. Can someone give me the name of a book or other information on battery powered barn radios -like what kind of battery they used? I'm sure that it would be beautiful if I refinished it.

What's a barn radio? Is it shaped like a barn, or do you use it in a barn?

I heard it called a barn radio because it runs on a battery instead of being plugged in. I am not sure what kind of battery it used.

I think you may have misunderstood. Battery radios were called "farm" radios, kinda colloquialism, because no electricity on the farm. Exceptions of course. Someone may have a Sears book and will tell you the model or do you know model or catalog number. I see you are refinishing cabinet before knowing chassis can be restored. Now I have gotten radios out of a barn, but between pigeons, cats and mice, they were impossible to restore.

I rescued it from a relative's garage. He found it in this condition in the garage of a house they bought. My husband had previously restored a radio and thought he would work on this one - but then life and kids projects sidelined that and ten years later....

I should try to find someone in Bakersfield that could work on it. I know it would cost more than it is worth, but I really like the looks of it and I want to see it restored if possible.
