Seeburg Discotheque

by renfrew county » Mon Aug 01, 2016 3:53 pm

Hi,
Looking for some information on the dual pricing unit (UDPU4)
What does the slide switch do, up for add? down for shift?
I have a couple old UDPU4 and one has the single sub. switch assembly in tack and the other one not intact, what does this switch actually do?
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Do you have the Service Manual PACKAGE for the PFEAU-1 model ? If so, there are numerous pages on setting up the UDPU-4. If you do not have this info, check the above post "where to find--". In a nutshell, the add/shift switch changes the (nickel, OR, shift, coil) from add, to a subtact shift, function. Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
I have added my location,
Is there a PDF file for the service manual I could download? I do not mind paying.
I am trying to get this jukebox going for a huge 1960's dance fundraiser coming up soon and I am donating the juke box for a silent auction.
I am setting it up to take quarters only, so can I eliminate this switch? if yes what position should the slide switch be in?

Thanks a lot

Paul

Hi Paul,
I dono, if there is a PDF or not, however I doubt the I & O Manual is on it----I don't use them--
Yes-You can set the subtract and add functions to "one", and the switch to "add", and you will get 5 plays per quarter.

Hi Ron,
Found the settings and the pricing unit seems to be working correctly now, I have to deal with a couple other items, one being it will not play a record unless I hit scan and the service switch then back to play on switch? then it plays all three credits ok.. this happens every cycle. The other issue is its not playing any B sides?
Any help would be appreciated, I am waiting for the package from John at flippers.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
The scan start switch in the pricing unit is probably not making, or the NC contact in the service switch is open--
B side TMU contact pin wire has probably fallen off, IF your "discotheque" is a model PFEAU-1--IF a model APFEA-1 there cold be another reason-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron,
You were bang on, a switch needed to be adjusted in the pricing unit.
I am now trying to adjust the coin unit where the coin hits the switch, tricky trying to set it to allow two plays for a quarter, going to spend later this week on it.
Next will be the B side issue.
Thanks a lot
Paul

Hi Paul,
Glad you fixed that--
What model is your jukebox ?
What model pricing unit is installed in it ?
What "switch" are you attempting to "adjust"--if you are working with the 4 switches under the coin acceptor, that the coins fall through prior to entering the cash-box area ---be EXTREMELY careful--see the manual for proper "adjustment", as they can be deformed beyond repair, very easily ! BTW--There are no "switches to adjust" to change pricing values on these phonos. Pricing unit set-ups, are covered extensively, in the I & O, and/or, service manual ( some models, both), for each model phonograph. Ron Rich

Hi Ron
The modle is PFEAIU and has a UDPU4 Pricing unit. Sometimes I get 2 plays for a quarter and then sometimes one play? I figured setting the coin acceptor switch would correct this??
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
No--messing with those switches is usually fatal for them -- and will not correct your problem--
What does affect that is the condition, and adjustment of the quarter coil, and the "hold magnet". Other things that can affect that are, the condition of the "add arm/spring", credit wheel and internal spring, subtract lever pawl stop (check for a 100 ohm 2www resistor on the sub solenoid or wired to the terminals with a jumper to the other side of the plate--MUST be there !! ) adjustment--all covered in the PFEA1U service manual-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron
Thanks for info about coin switches, I will leave alone. Not sure your reference to the quarter coil and hold magnet? Are these located in the upd4?
I am still waiting for the manual. I will check on the other info. you provided.
Thanks again

Hi Ron,
I cleaned and tweaked the switches best I could in the pricing unit, it seems to fluctuate from 2 or 3 songs per quarter, I am ok with this for now. I am going to work on the b side problem.
Thanks for all your help!
Paul

Hi Paul,
As I stated earlier--but not too well--it "ainna the switches" whutz causing your problem --
Remove the UDPU from the phono, remove the cover set it in the CORRECT position and operate it--watch the number of "teeth added" and the number subtracted--one or the other is incorrect when it miss-counts. This is a function of the items I mentioned earlier--do not "mess" with them until you have the Service Manual, as adjustment is critical !
The B side problem is the contact block (aka: "frog") connection, or the sensor pin, about 99 % of the time--Once gain, you will need the Service Manual (and I humbly suggest my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide) to properly correct this problem. Ron Rich
