I solved my lack of treble issue by switching off the speaker crossover network.

I have another question if you don't mind.
I now find the aluminum speaker mesh rattles. I'd like to remove it for a good cleaning and add some material like felt behind it. I see that I'll need to remove the 3 ornamental crowns. How is the aluminum mesh actually removed? I assume it slides out through the top or bottom of the cabinet?

Steve,
I believe years ago I had a "rattle problem" just about where your yellow arrow is. If I recall correctly, I removed a speaker, or 2, and shoved some insulating material down behind the grill, with a hacksaw blade ? Ron Rich

I've tackled the project of removing the aluminum speaker screen in the previous post. This is how I did it, if this will help anyone.

1. Unplug the jukebox.
2. Remove both speakers.
3. Remove the three grill crowns by unscrewing them from inside the cabinet.
4. Open the upper back of the cabinet and slide the phono assembly out a few inches to make room in the front.
5. Remove the front florescent tube and the left florescent light socket.
6. Remove the service switch bracket and the 4 screws securing the selector switch assembly. Lean the switch assembly up against the mech and out of the way.
7. Remove the white metal mesh by removing the hex head wood screws in front of the phono assembly. The clear plastic which runs lengthwise removes with it.

This gives access the the aluminum speaker grille upper mounting frame.

8. There's a short metal bracket on both sides inside the cabinet which are secured by 2 screws. Remove the screws and bend (adjust etc) the thin metal brackets up a little. (An inch or two
9. At this point the upper aluminum speaker grille frame is only held in by two small brads driven into the wood in front of the phono assembly. Remove the two brads along with the upper frame. There's a few staples driven through the aluminum speaker grille along the top. Remove them.
10. Grasping the upper edge of the grille, lift and shake it a bit to dislodge from the remaining frames then lift it up until it clears the lower frame.

In the next step, be careful the sharp edge of the aluminum doesn't scrape scratches into the various jukebox chrome.
11. Bend or bow the aluminum speaker grille mesh out until it clears a side frame. Then clear it from the other side frame and carefully remove it.

That's where I am presently in my screen cleaning project. The screen looks particularly dirty once it is removed from the machine. I did a bit of research for cleaning aluminum and I understand a brushed/scrubbed on vinegar and water solution should clean it brightly... which I'll try doing tomorrow. There's a black fabric like nylon behind the aluminum screen. It seems like the same kind of stuff used as a garden weed barrier material. I'll probably replace it with that material.

The three grille crowns are painted plastic, and bits of the original paint have flaked off. I also plan to repaint them using a "chrome" type spray paint.
