Help ! Rockola 481 Memory Loss

by Gordo » Sat Feb 07, 2009 2:36 am

Help I'm a newby to the site.

My Rockola 481 is suffering from Memory loss. It was working fine until a few weeks ago. It is set on freeplay.

When I enter a number of records, the screen is OK and shows them as normal, however when a record is finished, the jukebox returns to its resting spot and no other records play. The memory is cleared so it can play only 1 song in a row.

Strangely, if I press the cancel button (before the end of the record) it returns it to the rack and plays the next song. This will go on as long as I don't let a record finish in the normal way.

I am stumped, any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Cheers

Gordo.....

Gordo,
I too, have a memory loss--I don't remember that model--but--Do you have the service manual for that machine? Does it perhaps have a battery in it ? Have you changed it ? Is that model "programable" ? Ron Rich

No, I don't have a service manual. From info on the net it is a 1981 model.

As for a battery, I cannot find one. Any idea where it would be located?

This is a strange problem as the JUkebox does store the songs in the memory, it just removes them when a song is complete. If I cancel a song (say half way through) the next song programed will play.

I live in Australia and jukebox service men are not available.

Thanks for your time and reply,

Gordo

Gordo,
Look in the computer--if it has one--also, there is at least one repairman there-- can't find is info now since my computer crashed--but I know he also sells records under the name "Flamingo" Records. His name is Erwin Booth (not 100% sure on the last name), but I know he just opened a repair div. for NSM brand equipment there. If you should contact him, ask him to write me, so I can get his address again. Ron Rich

There is a box beside the turn table that has c-size rechargable batteries in it and a board. the batteries are probably leaking and discharged. they will need to be replaced. they are nicad batteries and there are 5 of them.

any chance you could post a picture of what that battery box looks like? I appear to be having the same problem funnily enough.

The 78 is the same inside. I have this problem also it is not the battery you do not need them. they are used in case power goes out so it will start off where it left. The memory problem is to do with the computers.
