Orthoponic Hi Fidelty Questions

Hello all,

I just received an Orthophonic Hi Fidelty machine, which was rebuilt at some point.. It didn't come with any instructions and I have a couple questions of those familar with the operation of these.. First it turns on and has no warm up time before it starts to play the record, Is that right? Also it does not stop turning after it plays the last side, maybe this is before auto shut off? Also it has a light hum you hear when not playing, and it seems to be effected by touching some parts or the lifting of the tone arm when it starts. I am impressed with the sound range which is pretty good for something old. I had difficutly with the RCA 45 adaptor causing the records to drag at first, perhaps another common issue? Anyone with information on these I would like to hear from?

Sounds like you have some grounding noise from the ceramic pick-up. May need a new cartridge or in the least make sure the contacts are secure. I don't really play any 45's on mine so not sure how to answer the question about the adapter, does it play other records at the correct speed? Good luck -Ted

I could tell you more if we had a photo of the record changer.
