Seeburg SCC3 56K Ohm Resistor

by Retrophono » Sat Jun 25, 2016 10:40 pm

Good day folks,

Before I start, yes Ron, I have the manual and have had this issue now on three jukes in the past 6 months, two SCC-3's, (PFEA1U's), and one SCC-7. On one ofthe SCC-3's, two other small wattage resistors burned up, R3108 & R3109 respectively besides the R3107, (56k ohm 2 Watt)
On the SCC-7, (from an LS-2), I did up the ante on the 56k to 4 Watts, still fried, took a little time but it "opened" too. I've poured over the schematics several times and I'm obviously missing something.... Please help, thank you!!

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve,
The 56 K was a common failure--factory "upped the ante" also--to a 4 watt, wire wound. I have not had any 4 watts in years--found some 5 watt WW units that seem fine ? Ron Rich

Thank you Ron,

I might have miss-typed, it probably was a 3 watt. Question still remains though, why are they failing in the first place.

Any further suggestions?

Cheers, Steve

If original--it was a two watt--reason for failure--engineering error way back when the first tube type Tormat systems were designed--circuit handles slightly over two watts, at all times--carbon resistor dies slowly--Super good resistors seem to handle this OK--others do not ? I have changed hundreds of them-- Ron Rich

Ron,

I'll give it another go, up the wattage to 5 and on to the next challenge.

As always, wise advise from a wise man, thanks Ron!!

Cheers, Steve
