Rockola 1452 selection problem -- please help

Hello,

Just bought my first Jukebox: Rockola 1452. Great shape, used to work fine untill recently, when the selection partially stopped working: it would select fine songs 1 up to 17, but when you press 18-50, it'll just make a "click" in the credit unit, but the drum would not advance. Some one suggested I clean the keyboard contacts -- I did in place, with LPS aerosol contact cleaner, with no success...

Any help, along with any normal maintenance advice, would be highly appreciated. I would hate to spend $150 on a home call by a technician if this is something common and easily fixed...

Below is a picture of the machine, as well as amp in and out (looks like ti was rebuilt, sounds great!).

Thanks.

Vlad

Hi Vlad,
IMHO, "cleaning the keyboard with LPS" is NOT what I would do--Do you have a service manual ? If so,read it, and see the schematics for the phonograph. You need to determine which circuit has failed, the quickest way I know of is to "push a pin" to the selected state, being sure your service switch is in the operate position, and see what happens. If you don't have the manual, see the list of suppliers of parts above---( might also read the other "announcements", and "stickies" above ) Ron Rich

Thanks, Ron.

I ordered the manual with schematics -- it's on it's way. I'll follow your advice once it arrives.

Spent some time with the box -- works fine now!!!

All I did was , as Ron said, observe the pins as I pressed the buttons and helped couple of them to get in place. Worked fine after that, so far... Shall I go ahead and clean the pin drum? What's the best way to go about that?

Also, what are the most crucial places I should oil, once I'm in the mechanism? I used a little of that long nosel turbine oil to lube some of the most obvious spots. I have the blue 3-in-1 for the motor.

Any help is much appreciated...

Vlad

PS: Last thing: I am looking for the replacement waffle grill glass. Checked with Victory Glass -- they have these panels at $75 each. Anyone knows where I can get 'em for less? Thanks in advance!!

Vlad,
I would suggest that you do NOTHING to the pin bank other then exorcise each pin with your hand two or three times--Hopefully "no one" has "sprayed nothing", into it, and it is just sleepy ! I don't know what you are calling "turbine oil", as I have seen many things called that--I would stick with the 20 wt. oil (3inONE) for everything inside all jukeboxes built form 1050, on
Oil anything that "moves" especially the "gripper"--get in between the gears on the end of it for sure and also into the spring loaded sections of the center record holder ( I like to remove a record from a slot, select that slot and stop the gripper when the center is upright --you can then move the spring sections by hand, while working the oil in)---- Ron Rich
