Cleaning solutions for metal star speakers?

I picked up a pair of Wurlitzer metal star speakers and wanted to get some input on what type of solutions/techniques are recommended for cleaning the metal and what type for the plastic ring that allows illumination from the bulbs behind the speaker. Not sure what they're worth, but I don't want to diminish the value by messing up the finish.
