Rock-Ola Nostalgia Model 1000

by daysgoneby » Wed Jul 17, 2013 6:09 pm

New to collecting jukes and need some help. Just purchased a Rock-Ola Nostalgia Model 1000. It plays the popular side just fine all records. When trying to play the flip side the machine will make the selection but it never plays. The basket rotates as if it is looking for the selection but never makes it. Can anyone help, would be appreciated, thanks!

Refresh my memory--does that model have an electronic memory system, orthe mechanical "pin wheel" on the "back-side" of the mechanism ?
BTW---if you don't have the manual set--see above "announcements--new, used--where to find--"

I would say electric memory, there are no pins that pop out showing the selection made. The basket has on right side a computer board with wheel with holes in it. I has electronice pricing computer, have it on free play. It makes the selections starting with 1 fine, select with 2 will rotate basket but never finds the record, just keeps running.

I have a manual but no trouble shooting guide. What I have is pretty much useless.

OK--going from my great--but not too long--and sometimes, mixed up, memory--
There is an A/B switch operated by the cam follower inside the large gear, turning the record basket---see if this switch is being switched, and if the contacts, when on the ""B" side, are making--

Ron, thanks for your help. There is no a/b side on basket or gear. I have posted pics. It appears there is a pc board that has a beam of light that passes between 2 sensors. It appears the beam gets broken from the basket turning. I tryed to post some pics but they are to big.

In this case, what you mght try, is cleaning, and re-seating all plugs to the computer. CAUTION--turn power OFF prior to even looking at those plugs !! I would also suggest that you remove the battery, and install a new one OUTBOARD. If that does not correct the problem, it's most likely internal to the computer. Ron Rich

My two cents:
Apparently the unit uses photocells for detection.
That, and light sources, do "go bad".
Checking the pulses from the cells would probably confirm that, or lead to the problem.

Matt,
Yep-- a photocell is used--but, the same one is used for both sides of the record--it mearly counts record spaces--so I doubt it is a problem here--

Matt,
One of my neighbors sold and serviced window blinds for years. He had a pannel truck with large signs on all sides of it saying: "Caution!!! Blind man Driving"--Ron Rich

Thanks for all the help with this issue. It ended up being the little cam. It was all greased up and would not move to the inside track. Took it apart and cleaned it, works like a charm, thanks again!
