Nsm ES 160 Festival carriage moving from Left to Right but not selecting the record...

Any advice on this issue appreciated...

Was checking the ir photo diode that tracks the carriage movement and tidying some cables etc... Powered it up to hear a strange throbbing sound NOW...
NO display
-5V LED is not lighting
... one step forward and two steps back :/

ok all LEDs lighting and display working... But now displays "Err C 050 2" and "0101"

Error codes look like coin channel error codes, 050 and 010 look like coin denominations for the particular channel

Your correct, that was the pay display, silly me, brain freeze under pressure

I changed the -5V & +5V LED and soldered some tired looking joints.... Not 100% sure to be honest, might be intermittent fault...

I inspected the coin IR diodes and some of then are blown and one fell apart in my hand...
The display now shows "Err C" think this is the coin monitoring unit... Can I by-pass it some how?

Not sure, is there a red button on the coin mechanism pcb, this can be used to clock up credits. The unit can be programmed for free play, not sure if you need to clear the error first, does PP appear on display when door is opened, if it does you can programme various options including free play, but if memory serves me one of the connections on the credit unit has to be jumpered so that it says permanently,will look it up later

Hi,
Thanks for the advice.... Got the FREE play working with a rear switch connected so it can be turned on or off, found some new/old stock IR LEDS and replaced all IR in the coin-unit and the one on the carriage tracking wheel... there's one IR transistor receiver missing from the coin-unit, display still shows ERR-C and I suspect its the missing IR transistor... Will try id and replace it...

Himmmmmmmm, I thought LED's lasted"forever"--that's what I read on the internet !!--and you know that anything there, HASTABE true !!

Haha, cute Ronnie.
However, as I usually do, I spread "the word" of truth whenever I can, and can assure you that IR LED's are failure-prone.
They get "weak", or just burn out.
I've replaced countless IR LED's in VCRs, TV sets, remote controls, and dozens of other electronic products over the years.
On another note......
Currently, with the "new" class of flat-screen tv sets using the LED technology to illuminate the display panel instead of florescent tubes, I've noticed quite a few of these LED assemblies going bad.
In most cases, the sets are "cheaper" models, although some name-brand sets are prone to failure too.
They're driving the piss out of these LEDs to impress people with a "brighter" picture, and through that costing LED life to suffer, usually after 3 years they die.
Combine cheap chinese quality LED's with overworked brightness levels and voila, no picture!
The sets are then not cost-effective to repair, since the labor/parts aren't worth the effort.
Better to buy a new set, and hope for the best.
If anybody wants a list of these miserable sets, let me know, I'm not afraid to drop names.

I'm afraid the LED's in this Jukebox were sitting in an Irish pub, powered on since 1978 failure was inevitable
However it's IR receivers that's needed for the coin counter...still looking to ID those little guys...

I remember when NSM went to the electronic coin switch--that was one of their "selling points"--they claimed that un-like the competition,
you would NEVER have any problems with this switch set-up ! --I guess I have out-lived "never" ??
