Hey there new guy here

Hey everybody, found a forum that can help me out. I just got a "magnificent magnavox" model 1st232 and i was wondering if there are any wiring schematics floating around. I popped the back cover off to find a few wires disconnected. Any help is appreciated Thanks

Welcome to the Board!

There are alot of great folks here that can help you. That cabinet/model# that you have isn't of much help. That cabinet could have been used for several years, but the "guts" could be different.

Remove the back and look for numbers on the radio/chassis (if they are separate), and turntable. That's how you find service manuals for these, and a date sticker, too.

If you need a new needle, you need to get the number off the cartridge first and cross reference that to get what you need. the FAQ section should help you with that. Everything under that hood is treated as a separate entity.

As far as wires being disconnected, there should be a wiring diagram pasted somewhere inside for the speakers/crossover network, turntable connections, antenna and pilot light. A service manual will reveal more as in the samples presented below. It kinda concerns me as to why those wires were disconnected in the first place.

I bought an Astro-Sonic years ago, and so glad I never plugged it in. Motor wires (and others) were snipped like sabbotage, as if someone did it deliberately.

Welcome again, and if you have the time and interest, cruise through some of the old postings and you'll get a great education about these old beasts. --BB

Thanks for the insight. Well i took the back off and found where the wiring schematic used to be. As for some numbers i have the turntable "DE LUXE-L600 Pt. No 523117-1" i ordered a new cartridge already so thats not a problem. i couldnt really distinguish which numbers are important so ill try to get some photos of the guts. Some details include it has 2-12" speakers and 2 tweaters in horns. Its a "magnificent magnavox" stereophonic record player with optional tape and fm mpx. It also has connections on the back for external speakers and a selector switch in the storage side. I'm pretty sure the wire that was loose just came off during transit and im pretty sure it is back in its place. It was the blue speaker wire that goes on the bottom of what i think is the crossover circuit.

What's all the labeling on your Speaker Selection switch? I've never come accross one of those. --BB

it has an A-E setting starting with a= rem ster, ext. chan, console b=ext chan, console c= rem ster d=rem ster, console e= console. Does anyone have a schematic or teardown manual for the L600?

Dispense with that filthy switch and just wire the speakers up from the amp traditionally.
No one ever uses that trouble-prone switch anyway.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
