Brunswick Panatrope what are the right tubes?

by marcapra » Fri Jan 01, 2010 10:57 pm

I am starting to restore a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope model P-9, so I printed out the schematic from Nostalgia Air. It is a phonograph only model with no radio. It has four vacuum tubes, but the schematic only shows three? but they also mention a fourth tube, so I'm confused. The schematic shows the UX 216B, the UX 199, and the UX 210. In a sidebox, the printout also mentions an '81 tube, but it is not shown in the schematic. My Panatrope came with a 281 tube and a 216B tube, but the other tubes are incorrect: (a 226 and a 586). Both the 226 and the 586 tested bad on my tester. No wonder the previous owner said it didn't work well!) The 281 tested good and I couldn't test the 216B since my tester doesn't give specs for it. Does anyone know why the '81 tube is not shown in the schematic or where it would go? The schematic shows three tubes in a row, but on my machine there are four tubes in a row. Thanks, Marc.

The 81 is the power supply rectifier tube. It is not in the audio chain. 281 is a different kind of rectifier tube.
