Hello. I'm new to this forum and a long time pinball collector starting to dabble with Jukeboxes.

I have a Rowe CD nostalgia that has a problem with the transfer motor or mech control board. The transfer motor itself gets really hot after turning on the jukebox. It does not run at all. It seems as if it is seized. The trans/scan led is always on.

My question is: is the transfer motor supposed to run right when the machine is turned on? If it is not, I would assume something is wrong with the mech control board. If it is the mech control board, can anyone tell me which components to check?

Hello Kurt,

It sounds as if the Mechanism Control on the jukebox is faulty you will need to check out the circuit drawing and replace the components that control that part of the circuit.
Dependant on what laser/mechanism control unit you have fitted will determin what circuit diagam you should refer to.

It could be as Alan said above, or it also could be that the motor has seized, in the "non home" position, which will cause the MCC to attempt to "home" it, upon start-up.
This can be checked by looking at the gripper position, which should be over the discs, and the switch located at the bottom of the motor--one of the two switches (Don't re-call which one) should be "activated" by that white cam.
You also should be able to turn the white cam CW, with your hand, without any "pressure". If you find it's not homed, and/or you can't turn it, I would assume it, or the gripper has seized. I have seen many motors seize, due to lack of proper oil.
I have spoken with the people that make that motor, and they recommend, despite the fact that Rowe claims it needs "no lubrication", that the two large oil wicks on the armature shaft be filled with SAE 20 wt. ND oil.

Thank you for your help guys! I have good news and bad news.

Good news is I got the transfer motor working. It was seized. I pulled it out dismantled it, lubed it, and put it back together. It's good to go.

Bad news is it seems that the unit is not reading CDs. It spins for a second and then stops. If I do a single disc initialization it spins the cd a few times and then stops. The lens appears to be clean.

What do you think I should do next?

What model player is it? Clean the disc, clean the lense. Replace the player. What computer software are the boards?

Hey guys! Sorry for not responding sooner. I appreciate the help! I just got done at the Southern Pinball Festival that took place down here in Orlando over the weekend. We had 81 machines and three of them were mine so I had to step away from the jukebox for a week to get them ready for the show. I digress...

I got the jukebox working a few minutes ago. First I tried cleaning the lens which did not fix the problem. I decided to order a CD Pro optic assembly from a guy here in Florida named John. He was very helpful and sent the part out the day after I spoke with him. It is now installed and working! Rush-YYZ first song played.

Full initialize=ON!

Glade to hear that you have got the jukebox working again.

What cabinet trim do you have on the TI-2, they prouced three as follows:-

The Woodbridge
The Rapsody
The Caprice

The bottom two had lit front & side panels.

I think it is the Woodbridge. Here is a picture. If I'm wrong please tell me what it actually is. There is not much information on this model. Thanks!

The jukebox you have shown in your picture is the 1974 Rowe Ami CTI-1 Crestwood.
It was the first of a series of Chest style jukeboxes tha Rowe Ami produced, this was the 1100 mechanism version (it used the same parts as the TI-2, R-74).
The next version was the 1978 CTI-1SC Camelot that used the 1200 mechanism/R-82 technology.
The last version was the R-84 version technology 1979 CTI-2 Kentwood, There may have been a R-89 based version however I have seen one of these.
