That noise is a dirty volume control slider.

Get some Caig De_Ox_It or Caig CaiLube MCL contact cleaner and squirt it into the potentiometers, then work the control back and forth to clean the surface.

Do this with the power off.

The potentiometers (pots) are the metal cylinders with the control shafts inside them. They are shown in the photo in another post captioned:

"Chassis attached to thin strip of wood that holds pots"

Squirt the cleaner into any holes in the metal cylinders. One such hole is visible in the photo. Then work the control from end to end about 100 times. When two cylinders are stacked (such as the control where the hole is visible), one cylinder is for each channel. You must do both of the,
