Wurlitzer 1100 Excessive Flutter

Just finishing up the reconditioning of this 1100 and I've an irritating problem. The fluttering is giving the speaker a workout at all levels, (volume). It has to be mechanical, the second I lift the tone arm off the record, the amp & speaker are silent. This is annoying to say the least. I've had a 1938 Seeburg do the same and I don't remember what I did to cure the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
