MORE INFO ON THE VICTOR V-IX

by shane » Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:03 pm

According to information i received from Paul Edie at the victor-victrola site, the model V-IX was made by victor for export to england and here in australia for hmv.As victor machines are quite rare in australia, none of the local collectors i know have been able to give me any information about this model, but we all seem to think it is an original and not made up of parts. The mahogany cabinet is of good quality and has no signs of ever having any parts swapped or altered in any way.i mainly collect edison and hmv machines, and have 4 hmv gramophones that date from between 1925 and 1928 which have the same double spring motor(no.34)It has a 12"turntable,tinplate morning glory horn, exhibition sound box and all parts are nickel plated. The id tag on the front of the gramophone clearly says V-IX 10192.this number is also impressed on the underside of the motor board and again on the inside of the cabinet base. The moulding around the base of the cabinet is quite wide and is "carved" with a leaf pattern which looks a bit art nouveau in style.Being new to computers,i have had trouble downloading pictures to this site, but will try and post some pictures of the machine in the near future.if anyone wants pictures of the machine, contact me at gramophoneshane@bigpond.com,and i can forward them directly to you.

Posting Images on this site

Hi Shane:

I'm glad you posted the follow-up. As I noted in my email to you, it's always great to hear about an "undiscovered" model. It shows that there's still a lot even the more long time collectors don't know about this hobby.

If you want to try posting the images here, give Imageshack a try, it's VERY simple to use.

Go to: http://imageshack.us/

1) Click on the BROWSE button.

The CHOOSE FILE screen will appear.

2) Double-Click on the folder in which your image is stored. For instance, if it's in the MY DOCUMENTS folder, double-click on that. If it's stored in a sub folder of the My Documents Folder--for instance, the My Pictures folder--then double click on that.

3) Locate the image file and click once on that.

4) Click on the OPEN button.

5) Click on the HOST IT button.

On the next screen that appears, you'll see the URL that has been assigned to your image. It will start with HTTP and end (normally) with JPG, or whatever file type the image has. (Normally, this is the bottom selection on the list.)

Copy and paste that URL directly into your post, and whomever clicks on it will see the image. You can also post the URL in the image brackets, per the instructions I provided in your original post string -- http://www.phonoland.com/forum/viewtopi ... 482f8c9648 -- In that way, the image, itself, will appear on this board.
