Needle brushes on stripper plate hits the needle on M100C with Pickering 345-03D

Hi, my recently acquired M100C did not have a stripper plate top / brushes (I think I know why...read on).

After fitting my new parts, I knew from the manual that there should be 1/32" clearance between the brush and the non-playing needle.

It's ok on the left side, but on the right side, even with the brush holder hard up against the mech cover, the brush hits the cartridge.

I have read this is because the Pickering is larger than the original, but do the experts just recommend "trimming" the brushes. It's probably about quarter of the brush!

I assume I'm not missing anything obvious here!

thanks.

There is no problem in trimming the brush. But first, check that the mech -cover- support at the motor end and the screw at the tone arm end are in position correctly. It is possible that the cover is slightly tilted.

It has been 25 years since I had a machine with the old style cover, but it just looks like the opening is extremely close to the tonearm, that is why I mention the support points.

"Someone" has "bent" your brush holders---I suggest that you carefully remove the two screws holding them and "re-form" the portion of the holder that actually holds the brush, inward (see the service manual "brush position adjustments"). Also, check the pick-up lifting adjustment, in the service manual. Ron Rich

Don't try to bend the brush holder without removing it from the plastic stripper. You will break the stripper. If you look at the manual, the brushes are at an angle to the record surface, not perpendicular like yours are.
