Seeburg Discotheque Wont scan or play

by Rfrancis01 » Sun Oct 18, 2015 8:13 pm

I have a Seeurg Discotheque that wont scan or play. Unit powers up. I can manually move the motor and get the record to move that was clamped down and I manually got it to reject but mech does not move or the motor spin othern than by my hand. I really never worked on boxes from this era I worked on Digital Seeburg's any help would be appreciated to cut down the troubleshooting time. I check the reverse switch and it seems fine and the control center relay engages when I hit scan

Voltage readings taken?
Fuses?
Trobleshooting info from the manual no help?
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

I checked all of the fuses, one was bad in the control center, I replaced it but no change. I only have a general seeburg manual not the specific one for that box.

I have not taken any voltage readings yet.

Well,
First of all, there never was a "Discotheque" model--that sign can appear in as many as five different models, plus others that "someone" installed it into--"Motor power" on all 160 select models, from theLPC-1 thru the STD-4 is exactly the same. 117 neutral goes to the rev. switch (or relay on the LPC, and APFEA-1 models), thru the mechanism plug on the control center. Switched power is supplied via the scan control unit contacts (in the control center), thru the Autospeed, back to the control center, thru the mech cable, once again to the reversing switch, or relay, depending on model number.
If you have 117 at the mechanism, I would guess the motor run cap has opened--

OK- It's a APFEAI model--same electrically as the "Digitals" ( or "MicroLog") models for motor control wiring--
Which "fuse" was blown--if the 15 amp in the clip, near the transformer, find the short prior to replacing it, or you may burn wiring---or blow the transformer ( I recommend a 10 amp fuse be used there !). Look at the latch bar, the pop meter, and all other 24 volt AC items--Ron Rich
