Record "slips" when playing

by southofi-10 » Wed Oct 16, 2013 11:40 pm

Was listening tho the Beach Boys when I noticed the record dragging.Well.it wasn't actually dragging,it was slipping on the turntable.
The turntable speed is fine.It claps fine, but apparently with not enough force.Or,maybe it's because the record label is new and slick??
I've got the books for this machine, but didn't find where to adjust the clap force.
Most records play find.
Maybe I should just put in another record that doesn't slip?

As Ron mentioned you didn't say what make of machine...But assuming it is a Seeburg I suggest you check for dirt build up in the pilot hole in the turntable. This can prevent the clamp from fully entering and holding the record.

If the Beach Boys record is a Capitol reissue they were notoriously thin but do work if the clamp is OK.

Seeburg "fleetwood"
I'll check for dirt, and yes, this is a reissue.

South,
Has someone pulled the clamp arm back over the distance it normally travels ? If so, the spring has been weakened--Is the turntable thrust bearing OK ? Has someone re-adjusted the clamp arm switch too tightly?
