How can I fix Wurlitzer 2100 noisy page motors?

by hirdlej » Fri Jan 17, 2014 9:42 pm

I'm trying to help a friend with his wurlitzer 2100 jukebox. His page motors make kind of a growling noise whenever you press the page turning button. We've had the motor out, cleaned all the contacts, oiled all the rollers on the page rotators, greased the gears, greased the cam, bevel gears, oiled the felt pads, no matter what, it keep grumbling.

Is there anything that can be done to make these quieter? I notice on watching youtube video's, that a lot of 2000's and 2100's have quiet pages, but then there's some that sound like chainsaw's as well.

If anyone has experience with these pages or making the motors quieter, I would appreciate any input you have.

Here's a link to a video of a 2100 with the pages in action. This is exactly how my friends machine sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... -5oCo#t=16

I used a straight 20w oil. The cam, the gears all received synthetic grease. The rollers for straight teeth also were oiled. The noise is definatly coming from the motor end and not the gearbox on the page assemblies. I'm almost starting to wonder if the bushings are worn on the end shafts. Would any electric motor repair shop be able to pop in new bushings? They look like a ball/socket type bushing that could be popped out and new ones pressed in. Am I right?

Thanks!

Yep--you are coming through, loud and clear--just nobody knows the answer--I would guess that some shops could do that--but it would depend on the shop ? Ron Rich

Hi just a drop of oil on the rear of the armature shaft should do the trick.
