I have recently acquired an old electric phonograph and plugged it up in hopes that it would work. After reading on here for about 5 minutes, I realized that wasn't smart, but luckily nothing was damaged. Sound comes from the turntable but the speakers don't make any sound. After taking the back off and touching some wires the speakers worked but only for a minute or so. Once again all of this was done before I read anything advising me against it. If anyone on here has any information or tips about these it would be very helpful.

Obviously, it needs a restoration. Are you up to it or do you have someone who is?

I have a very basic knowledge of wiring, and it is so old that it seems even more foreign to me, the problem is I don't know of any place that near me that offers this kind of restoration. I guess I will have to look a little farther.

You will need to restore the changer, oiling a few things here & there will not cut it, and this requires some mechanical skill. The amp will need recapped at least. It's a tube model from around 1964. I am finding things on it through the web, including schematics so the info is out there if you look. Assuming the cabinet is in good condition it is worth restoring. Gather all the information on it you can before you take it apart. Take pictures... lots of pictures.

My Grundig Record changer, model TW 504 G is conintually trying to change records (after much much lubrication). If I leave the ballast arm up it is in an infinite loop. If I put the ballast arm down it drops, plays for 3 seconds, and then the tonearm returns to its resting position and the phono turns off.

Your problem is due to the "much much" lubrication, in addition to the lack of it where it counts.

That changer is made by" Telefunken" a very good service manual was issued for it. Find it, study it ,it will tell you what is causing your problem. Good luck
