Wurlitzer 3310 (3300) - small hole records

by recordfarmer » Sun Jun 03, 2012 3:29 am

I recently picked up my first jukebox, a Wurlitzer 3310 Americana III - 100 play model. While stocking it with records, I realized that at least half of my 7" record collection were "small hole" 45 RPMs -as are many of the new music records currenly being pressed. I was led to believe that these would either not play at all, or shift the machine into 33 RPM. While trying to decide whether to "dink" these records, some of them long out of print and irreplacable, either using a drill press or a dinking tool sold in the UK, I ended up just putting a couple in the box to see what happens. Lo and behold, they loaded and played flawlessly. For whatever it's worth, my box doesn't have the optional 33 RPM unit in it. I just wanted to put this out there in case it isn't common knowledge - Other than techniques for making those small holes big, I haven't been able to find any information on this topic.

Dylan,
Check the archives--MANY things posted on this subject--
Anyway, your phono had the 33 speed change installed when it left the factory. Yours has probably been disabled somehow.
The most common way being, to remove the # 12 bi-pin lamp from it's socket, in the rear of the phono---

Hi guys,
This post is old but since I just got a Wurlitzer 3310 I will take a chance on this :)
The 3310 does everything it is suppose to exept clamp the record. I am new at jukebox, but buying an old broken one was my only chance to get one moneywise.
The speed sucks but it looks like new belts will solve this, I have to hand start turning it for it to spin :)
The first 3-4 times I tried, it did clamp the record, but then it would not put the record back in after it played...
Now it puts it back in but it does not clamp the record therefore the needle does not touch the record
So basically, it now gets the correct selected record, it will turn once I change the belts but no clamping
Anyone knows where to start ?
Many thanks !

Hi Julie,
You probably should have started a new topic for this--but--
It sounds as if you need to oil that whole turntable assembly ! I recommend that you do so with 20 wt. ND motor oil only. It will take awhile for it to work in once placed in the "oil hole", and on the rear "plunger", but the only other alternative is to dis-assemble/clean, re-lube. the whole thing--a ROYAL PIA, IMHO ! You also should check the motor supports--replace them if "sagging"-- Ron Rich
