Found a site with record changer change cycle videos.

I found this great site with videos of the change cycles of record changers which move the records around instead of dropping them:

Notice that both the Lincoln and the Thorens use the actual size of the record, not just a predetermined stop for record size.

Wheels in the bottom of the pickup arm scan the top record on the turntable from the inside out as it rotates:
Dual 1003, 1004, 1005, and 1006

A sensor on top of the pickup arm scans the underside of the record about to drop from the inside out as the pickup arm swings back and forth several times:
Miracord PW-9 and Miracord 90.
