Metho on Vinyl???

by jakub76 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 2:59 pm

Hi,
One of my Vogue picture records has a price stamp on it I'd like to remove. Any suggestions how I can clean the stamp off without affecting the clear vinyl surface of the record. Metho, shellite, turps?

I should clarify it's a yellow ink stamp, not a paper one.

Cheers

If the product is pure vinyl, isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) will do the job. It usually won't hurt the label if it is pressed into the record.

I use a 50-50 mix of isoppropanol and distilled water for cleaning records.

Beware of using isopropanol on filled vinylite (the record is rigid, not flexible), styrene, or shellac.
