Trying to test the mech on a see burg LU unit. I know the preamp needs work but wondering if I should be able to check the mech without the preamp working. I have power plugged to amp and the mech cord plugged to amp but nothing seems to be happening. Before I spend a lot of money on the pre amp ,I was hoping to check out the mech first

Yes-sir, you can run the mechanism by adding 117 vac, and if you like 25 vac--see schematics for plug/pin numbers.

You can power the mechanism thru the preamp without the tubes or you can apply power to the correct pins on the plug that plugs into preamp from the mechanism. Put all the switches on front (pins) in the down position. Turn unit on with On/Off/volume switch and the mechanism will just scan from end to end. When you are happy with that, push one switch up to second position (bottom single blue line) and it should go thru the load/unload cycle. When pushed up to next position (double line. blue and red) it will load and play A side, unload, go to end of carriage, reverse and come back and play B side. Top position (blue line) is B side only. There are no Torids or anything. It's all mechanical. Clutch must be adjusted properly.
