This was offered at some point after the the run of the K&L. It marks a return to the previous stepper design in that it went back to the use of a 5mfd 'smoothing cap.

This unit fit exactly into the existing mainframe.

The big PIA was changing the original edge connectors over to the large Jones plugs. A small 12 pin plug and harness had to be made and integrated into the existing chassis.

I used this at-home for a few months while I had a "K" but changed over to later backdoor when the machine went on-location.

Thanks Rob,
Too bad you have no "paper work" --
Wonder why they did not re-use the original plugs--and make it "plug and play"---??
If anyone has more info on this unit, please let me know-- TIA, Ron Rich

Here is a photo of a 100 selection Seeburg L I own. It has had the modification mentioned in this posting some time in it's past.
Looks like wiring the jones plugs would be a real pain!

Hi Juker,
Do you have any "paperwork" on that unit ?? Wiring the new plugs would really be no different then if you needed to change one--NBD, just 30 some odd wires to cut and solder---?

If I couuld locate a retrofit for my K, would it then be safe (safer) to hook a WOM up to the Seeburg K?

I wouldn't bother, not for home use.

You would have to change both Jones plugs, cut out a larger hole in the top mech shelf and wire it into the mainframe.

I've owned three "l" models and used the stepper on the two that had intact steppers. Properly cleaned and for home use they are OK.

Does the Seeburg 201 have the same stepper problems as KS/KD models or is the stepper in the 201 fine?

Darrell, the 201-on was/is fine, I use them every day in my locations.

The K-L problems stemmed from both the edge connectors and the stepper wiper and traces. Over time dirt and oxygenation would tarnish the contact surfaces and cause erratic connection.

If they were kept clean, they would have been OK, but in the often filthy environment and neglect that most jukes operated, along with the bad rep for printed boards in the amp and Tormat unit, Seeburg must have felt it was necessary to try an salvage this model and their reputation.

i am surprised they didn't come up with a retrofit for the whole backdoor.

Guy's,
There is no "safety concern" that I am aware of with the original RCSU--just a "reliability issue"--especially in commercial use, where "customers" tend to "do a Fonzie" on a jukebox, if it takes their money, but does not play their selection. Also, at this time, since it was only made for one year, parts, if needed can be a problem to locate. Ron Rich

Hi All,
I still have this for sale--but have now acquired a copy of the factory instruction sheet, (thanks to a friend), 'splaining how to retrofit this. If anyone wants a copy, contact me off list.

Hi All,
I have acquired a very rare retrofit stepper designed by Seeburg to use
in the KS, KD, and L model phonos, that had the "awful" stepper fitted. I have never seen one of these before (I do know of one other --owned by Rob/NYC).
I am offering it for sale, here, prior to "eBaying" it--
Price is (USD) $300.00, firm, ( plus postage) as is.
I have the needed two "Cinch-Jones" plugs, and the one A-MP, Amp-loc plug. All plugs are wired, but you will need to solder the "pigtails" to the existing original plugs. These are included in the above price.
For an additional $150, I will re-cap, add a (NOS) 2050 tube, and test it. I can NOT do a "full test", as that would require me to solder in the above wires, to my test jig--but, I am confident that given my experience with Seeburg steppers, it will operate perfectly.
It does have a
small amount of surface "rust" along the upper edge--about 1/8th to 1/4 inch wide. I feel this can be safely removed, and the edge either left as is, or painted, as you wish--other then that it is cosmetically in good condition.
Contact me off list, if you have questions, or wish to purchase it.
Thanks, Ron Rich ronnnrich@yahoo.com
