Hi Ron,
Wow I see why you use a pin..One drop at the time in these motor tubes
I have oiled all the places you told me! But I will redo the tubes of the motor when I find a pin

- Now for the spring do you know a good place where to buy? I have searched a few, but one does not have them and the other is closed due to death in the family.. number 124525 in the manual it must be part number?
- Also, it seems that the small pointy 33 adapter is always out no matter what even when at rest state. Could that be why it never clamps the 45s?

Julie,
You can use a sewing needle or a thin wire/stick of any kind--
Sorry, Off-hand I don't recall how that change-over worked--should show you in the Manual ??

Ok I will!
Now the only issue remaining is the clamping.. well after a change the spring

I have sent a few mails to retailers.
I really do not know where to start, I did oil, but no change.
It does clamp when I turn the roller manually once it is already in play position.. then it clamps
Same If use small hole record, but there is a big mechanical noise when it clamps a small hole...
Maybe that is what the previous owner was talking about...
Here is a page of the manual talking about adjustments to the turntable..
I will try and understand what to do

Ron, Rob!!! While I was looking at the turntable drive, I noticed that there is a spring with a bolt in it . they call it Spring, Clamp Rod in the manual, and that Bolt seems loose as it is not screwed on the rod at all!!!!! Could this be it ?? that rod is the rod that pushes all the clamp assy no??? I am pointing to it in the screenshot

Sorry--just do not recall how that set-up works--doesn't the Service Manual tell you ??
If not, perhaps Rob, or someone else will-- Ron Rich

*Update*
The records now clamp, but they do not release hahahahahaha! .............. At least I know that I am working around the correct things!! ...
Oh man... I was so exited, and then...does not unclamp hahahaha!! You should have seen my face of dispair

Ron, the manual says to use the adjusting plate, which I did, many times, to finally have the record clamp... now I have to find a way so it clamps AND unclamps as it seems that the back end of the clamp shaft is the one to play with to release the record.... and the utility of the bolt just behind the adjusting plate is a bit confusing to me..
for now it is : when it clamps, does not unclamp and when it does not clamp, it unclamps perfectly

gotta find the in between

Rob-NYC wrote:Julie, the Cam Lever Switch looks bent out of shape. Those look to be normally closed unless opened by the lever. Do you have a contact bender (stupid question..I know..) Try carefully removing the switch so that you can bend the blades so that they will stay together except when opened by the screw on the lever.
I suspect that is the problem here. FWIW: I'd probably "lobotomize" the setup and eliminate the 33/small hole function if I were going to use it for revenue service.
Rob
Rob, I forgot about this... I still have not tried to put a small hole record to see what the switch does, I will do that.
For now I am really trying to adjust the adjusting plate accordingly to the manual, but when the 33 pointer is flush with the sides of the turntable's front end, it does not clamp.. when it is outside of it, not flush, it clamps... but it does not release as the 33pointy thing keeps the record from falling off......
The anoying thing is, when I manually push the Record Guide's front casting...IT CLAMPS How in the world do I make the Record guide front casting closer to the front end of the TT.. ?? Is there a way to make it stay where you push it? See pictures attached for parts
Many thanks again!

Hi Julie, the distance from the T-T to the stripper plate is specified in the service manual They are on Pg. 58 fig. 25. The dual speed mech's are a bit more critical than the older 45-only ones in that the pilot is shallower and flat because it acts as part of the turntable when a small hole record is clamped. The distance from the plastic bearings to the pilot is said to be approx ¼ in.
Does the stripper plate look like it has been bent outward? If not, it probably isn't the cause of the problem. If it is outside the spec and simple pressure doesn't bend it back it the mech has to come out and the top arch be removed.
When I have run into a sort of problem that defies quick observation, I slow things down by manually turning the changer motor shaft by hand.
Take a look at the operation of the record stripper arm (Pg 59 Fig 26 item

and see if it is timing properly. Try keeping it away during clamping.
You are in the right area.

From memory, I remember telling myself I thought the upper part of the front guide was bent forward, like in an angle.. I will measure it tonight....When you say:'' simple pressure doesn't bend it back it the mech has to come out and the top arch be removed.'' It is certainly not refering to simply removing the upper plastic part of the Record guide and trying to adjust right?? Should I start crying now?

--------------- Ok I will !
And do you know where I can get replacement springs? The online merchants all respond that they do not have this part... DO you have a place to refer?
Many thanks!

you are right At least I know that this will fix my spinning issue as I apply a very small force to the spring and it turns ok
records clamping adjustments well....that is another story.... patience, yes patience

Hi Rob
After further review, you are right, the record stripper plate is ok, not bent. So I gues not need to remove top arch

thank god

I tried a small hole record, clamps and release perfectly...... It is almost annoying..... 45s large hole records still a no no
I will try and understand that record stripper's use and timming. The thing is that I do not know how it is suppose to work when / if its correct
I do not understand what it does exactly. I will read the manual, again. But this part is hard

ANd that switch, it says NO in the manual, but how can it ever close the way it is made? I dont get that either...
Thanks again for your help and support. Don't know what I would do without my two Ro's

Hi Julie,
You do know that the spring you have there may or may not be the correct item -- One of Rob's Geppetto friends may ave replaced it, with one too strong, and when he realized that, he attempted to compensate by distorting it---
Didja try John at flippers.com--he's in Canada, too, and MAY have that spring, NOS, in stock, by part number !
