Carriage Problem NSM Prestige 2

by beartoothweb » Fri May 22, 2015 5:22 am

Hi there, total newbie here...

My buddy just gave me this machine, NSM Prestige 2.

He had taken it apart and cleaned and lubed it all and it seemed to work just fine, played records, etc. He did not use the bar to secure the carriage when it brought it to my house (20 miles), however.

We played maybe 5 records with it, then the carriage just started going back and forth without stopping. It now will try to load a record, puts it in the carriage, needle approach is it, touches, then it unloads it.

I checked the connections, everything seems fine and connected, and it's "trying" to do it. Relays seem to work, and it goes back and forth and loads the right record by number, etc. It just won't play, and won't stop after the record plays.

Any ideas for trouble shooting?

Is there a board to be replaced? Thanks!

You will need to check the reject/cut off circuits. If there is a reject button on the back of the cabinet or a remote make sure these are not shorted out, if they are ok (disconect them if needs be) check out the reject switch on the mechanism.

Thanks! The reset switch appears fine.

But, I pulled the carriage out and checked the connectors, and one of them had lots of solder points broken. I resoldered them, but to no avail. It actually made it worse, now it doesn't seem to know where it is on the track, and goes far left and tries to keep going.

I believe it might just be a bad carriage board, do you think?

bear

It could well ne that board that rides on the mech, it also could be in the CCU. Have you tried George Sammons? Here is a link to his site

As far as it rejecting the record (starting to play and rejecting) there is either a reject switch or reject board built on your carriage One switch will be on the inside of the frame on the right side looking at it in the jukebox. The adjustment for this is a screw on the outside of the carriage. If it has a reject board it will be behind the tone arm and is gray and have a screw in the middle of it. Only turn the screw in small increments to make any adjustment. This worked perfect for mine, I hope this helps. :D
