Classical recordings guide

Hi all
As you might know, many collectors are not at all interested in classical music 78 rpms, finding them either 'not interesting' or just 'not worth anything'. I can agree upon the fact that most are not worth very much, as they appear in large quantities and hardly anyone wants them. But as I really love classical music, I can really enjoy playing it of 78 rpms, rather than those dull cd's.
But I find myself in the position of not knowing what to chose...when looking through mountains of those ;-)
Anyways, I guess there must be some sort of understanding amongst classical collectors, of which recordings are outstanding and therefor well worth looking for. Is there anyone who could give me some tips on either guides to.. or recordings themselves ?
Sobie
