Edison Radio...?

Greetings -

So, to begin... I am a phonograph, not a radio guy.

I will be buying a phonograph from a guy this upcoming Saturday. He contacted me: "Do you like radios as well? I have an Edison R-5 radio for $100 if you are interested, no pressure."

Can anyone tell me what an Edison R-5 radio is and if it's worth buying at that price? I couldn't find much on the 'net. :?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Not sure if this will help, but you can find a schematic (in PDF format) for the R5 on this page: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/840/M0021840.htm

Just click on the floppy icon -- Image to download it, or the "eye" icon -- Image -- to view it. (Both are hard to spot, but they appear on the left side of the grey colored "Resources" bar.)

Other Edison radios are listed on this page -- http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/414/T0000414.htm

Edison radios were made in the mid to late 1920's and are a little hard to find.
Get in contact with the seller of the set and ask him or her to send you picture
of the set if possible. Once the picure is sent take a look at the set and see what
kind of shape the set is in.
If he can not send you a picture go over to the sellers place if he is local and take look
for yourself. If the set is complete and in good shape then see if he will take $75 for it.
Good Luck,
