Getting nothing on my RCA 6K2..PLEASE HELP!

by nichelob » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:13 pm

Hello All...

I recently picked up an RCA 6K2 floor model. It is a beautiful piece of radio history.

When I plugged it in intially, I never got anything....no hum or anything, but the power does work because some of the tubes get hot (not all of them), and the lights work.

I completely recapped the e's and non-e's last night and still get the same result. Any suggestions?

I know the speaker works because I hooked a standard stereo to it, but I am getting nothing from it from the RCA.

Any help wold be greatly appreciated.

I would ask what is the B+ on the output transfromer? Plate of the output tube? WIres to the speaker, open primary or secondary. Guess you should scope the G1 of the output and see if youn have audio there, but with no hum, I would start with B+.

Dear Sir,

Check the output tubes and and the output transformers and field coil.
Also, check the resistors and see if any in the audio section have gone bad.
Make sure that the voltages are correct in the audio stage.
And lastly,if you have signal tracer use it where you are losing the signal
in the audio stage.
I hope this helps you some.

Sincerely,
Radiojunkie

With something THAT AGE, the FIRST thing I would have done "initially" would be to go over the set and replace the caps, then ohmed out the transformers, finally checking the rectifier tube.

Then I would have turned it on to see what further needs to be done, knowing I probably saved a ton of money on replacing tubes and transformers that might have fried in a heartbeat had I left the old ratty caps in place.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
