HELP NEEDED w/an Army mechanical field phonograph

Please don´t feel offended! There was a TV- broadcast in Germany, some "experts" judging a no name gramophone (in a baroque hall", talking very wise, and at the end of their judgement played some tunes with that gramophone...but they put the tonearm to the wrong side!!! and it just didn´t stop, as the needle position was vertical (the result was awfull). So, no offence!!! You said, you have no clue..is the needle at the correct side of the turntable???

That doesn't work, Ron, since there is no "s" in expert. If there WAS an "s," then you could also make something naughty out of it, such as "a person who no longer can"..... ....but we've got to keep this site family friendly, and I don't want to have to ban myself.

Actually, though, are a number of people involved with antique or acoustic phonographs and gramophones who have, what I'd call, a great deal of expertise, either in terms of what they know about the history of these items, or because of their mechanical skills in repairing and restoring them. (I, unfortunately, have expertise in neither, though I'm pretty good at locating information--providing it's available online.)

I know there is no "s" in it, when ritten--oh, should that word have a "w" in it--can't hear the "w" when spoken ????. On the other hand--also in fear I may need to ban myself-- There IS a hole bunch of "s" in that particular use of the word !! Ron Rich
