NSM grand performer battery

Hi All: Just got Grand performer classic CD. Mech issues solved right away. The problems. It won't hold programming when turned off. It is annoying as just about everything is done through programming the system throught the keyboard, including the bass and treble. everytime it is turned on it needs the volume turned up and it sounds like crap till i adjust it again.
The service manual mentions in several places a battery back up, but gives no decription where it is. I have scoured the schematics, parts list, parts ident pictures, looked on every board i can find. there is no battery i can find. This is an ES-5 machine.
The second problem is with the title card holders. They are supposed to slide over one another. rather randomley they will catch at the top center corners, jamming the card display system. I pulled out several card holders and lubericated the worm rollers and every part the moves. then noticed that the top has a ball bering in a holder that is supposed to allow the card past, lubed that too. Not sure where to go on now. Gets worse as maching warms up. Thanks Mark

Going from my great, but not too long, and somewhat fuzzy memory, it seems to me that this model used a "DataSave" battery, soldered onto the board. If I am correct ( an no one has changed it), it's in a black plastic housing--looks somewhat like an IC, soldered to the upper left hand side of the (inner ?) PCB.
As for the title card holders--1. IMHO, they were not very good from the "get-go". I would imagine that all the usage that yours has had, would require the worn parts to be replaced. Also, you MUST, use the clear plastic containers for the album jackets (no more then two pages thick--correctly trimmed, as NSM did not consider size in the design)/ID cards, AND, they MUST, be placed within the "tabs", or it's a guaranteed jam--just waiting to get to the backside, to happen !
(If you or anyone is interested, I have a whole new set (100-NOS) of the slides--and MAYBE the clear plastic covers {I would need to look in that box}, I would be happy to sell for an "offer I can't refuse"--PM me, if you wish) Ron Rich
