Just out of curiousity, i was wondering if anyone knows how long these were issued with the black paper label shown below. Also, if anyone has any in their collection, if you wouldnt mind posting the record number,I might be able to get a rough idea from the recording dates.

Edison changed from etched labels to paper labels sometime in the mid 1920s. The rough chronology is:

Ealiest to latest.

Etched labels with "Interstate highway" type shields, one containing Edison's picture. Vertical recording.

Etched labels with laboratory beakers, one containing a bust of Edison. Vertical recording.

Paper labels with laboratory beakers, one containing a bust of Edison. Vertical recording.

Paper labels with laboratory beakers, one containing a bust of Edison. Lateral recording. Only 1929 and 1930.

Shane,

I plan on putting together a grouping of Edison Labels some time in the near future. There were at least three etched labels I believe and at least three paper labels, The all black one you have (which is similar to one of the etched labels.), the "Re-Creation" label and the "Record" label. For some reason I think there may be another but it may be a faulty memory!

As far as I know there was only one label for Edison Laterals. It was dark colored, black I believe, with"Edison" at the top surrounded by a grouping of three electric bolts on each side. IIRC it also bore the standard: "Needle-Cut" I'll post the images or a link when I find them all. Soon I hope.

Regards,
J.
