Rock Ola 440 advice needed.

by slacky » Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:16 pm

I believe I purchaed the Rock Ola 440 that was passed on in this thread.

http://www.phonoland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=371

This is my first Jukebox, I have no knowledge of them but I'm moderately handy and very keen.

The record pick-up mechanism on this model is seized.
The guy i bought it from said he was making some sort of adjustment and his shirt got caught in some gears, he heard a thumping sound and the mechanism was seized.

Looking the above picture the bar marked A was bent, it was not lying in the groove of the cog marked B and you can see where the bent bar A has scored the cog B either side of the red line.
Cog B has been removed and the bar straightened, I have not yet replaced this cog or cog C which sits behind it.

After doing this I was able to put the jukebox into operating mode and it appeared to be completing some sort of cycle. However.......

Image

whether the machine is in operating or scan mode the gear marked G turns counter- clockwise and grinds against the stationary F.

One last thing, I found a small lump of metal in the base of the jukebox when cleaning it out, i threw it away but after inspecting the mechanism more closely I now believe it to be this....

Image

the block of metal marked D which is preventing the pick-up mechanism from moving appears to have a chunk missing from it, area marked E.
Will this be a big problem for me? I can't see me getting a replacemt part.

Well I hope somebody can advise me and I'd really appreciate any help or info no matter how small.

Thanks in advance,

Jason Slack.

First of all, since untrained people are prevented by glass from handling the arm, there is no safety-drive on a jukebox (most record changers have safety-drives). If the pickup arm or record arm is handled at the wrong time, it can be damaged.

Second, some parts have limit switches on them to tell the drive motors when to stop running. If the limit switch fails, the motor will keep trying to drive parts farther than it should - or it may not run at all. Limit switches also tell the cycle unit when to change to a different phase of the jukebox change cycle.

Third, I have seen assemblies (such as the turntable and arm assembly) sold on eBay. Perhaps you can find an undamaged one.

hi
with all that wear and tear on your jukebox you will be better off fitting another gripper arm unit plus a control unit -0 the one under the right hand of turntable and change all the microswithes on the end of the gripper arm unit i have these parts but where do you live :?:

Tom, I live in Jersey City NJ.

Do you have other parts for this machine?

What sort of money am i looking at spending?
