I have a Seeburg 160. It keeps rejecting the same record over and over, plus the sound quality is poor. Any suggestions? Bob H

Might have an idea, if you would 'splain yourself better--Seeburg "160's" were made from 1958 to about 1984--
What is the model number ? And--what do you mean by "rejecting----" Ron Rich

The model is the 161, from 1958. It will pull the record, then the needle lays on the record and then it will put it back and keeps repeating over and over. thanks, Bob H

Bob,
Various things can cause this to happen--Do you have a service manual? If so, find the detent release lever and hold down on it when the record comes up--see if there is an "electrical pulse" lifting the lever at that time--

Thanks Ron, I intend to purchase a manual. Prob wont help me, I'm not very "tech smart". I'll have to contact a repair man, I was told the worst thing for a jukebox is too not be played on a regular basis, mine had been sitting for awhile. It just needs a routine maintance.

Bob, if the machine continually brings up, clamps and immediately returns the disk, here are the likely causes:
1) Bad 2050. This tube controls the trip action of the mech. Look for this tube on the selection receiver. As these fail they begin to lose control and conduct (weakly) continuously. Pull out the tube, if the mech now stops the continuous loop of changing the tube is the probable culprit. See also #2.
2) Failed low voltage rectifier. This is a little more complicated to deal with, but if you have a meter try this: Locate the three screw terminals at the left of the selection receiver. these are labeled Red-Green-Blue. They are for wallbox connection but the blue terminal has the same low voltage DC that is needed to bias the trip tube. Connect your meter with one lead to chassis ground and the other to the --blue-- terminal. You should see approx minus 25 volts dc. If not the LV-Dc rect or associated components have failed.
3) Lack of lubrication. If pulling the 2050 does not cause the mech to stop changing another probable cause is severe lack of lubrication.
You'll need a Lube chart:
http://www.fileswap.com/dl/sEiarj6bpp/ right click to enlarge and save. Use a 20 wt oil, pay particular attention to the clutch assembly at the rear of the mech. If this fixes the problem, run the machine for a while and lube it again, this will help flush the bearing surfaces.
Try these and let us know what you find.
