I have a new (to me) CD100 (Thats the model printed on the sticker) SN 9277 CCC xxx2201. It is running just infe with 2.7 roms. I have the "missing 4 pins chip header" but pads are there I could easily solder a new header in.

anyway.. i burnt the 3.0 roms available online. to a TMS27C512-20 chip I had sitting about. (as I understand the 4.0 roms need the larger chip, didnt solder a new thing yet so slacking that)

So Putting the new roms in place I boot up I do the "0 + 1" and I see "reset defaults"
board error LED is solid

I cycle in a RAMTEST PASSED" and "CHECKSUM = xxx"

juke is stuck in that cycle .. so put the 2.7 chip back in everything is dandy, bumping music.

What am I missing here.. I commonly burn chips for other stuff so my chip and burner are likely oK... do I need to also use a larger chip (from my research possibly a 27010) to make this work? I see a lot of people saying "exchange your CCC" but would rather not do that as then I am out a new jukebox and 80 more bucks. what exactly is exchange doing other then adding a bigger header for the EPROM? can I also make these modifications? I read that "some CCC" cant run new code.. how do I tell if this is the case. And should I just buy a new CCC for $30 on ebay to solve the "old" problem

everything i read says "you shouldnt be running 2.7 its crazy old"

also if it matters its home use. not running free play as it looks like the "play whole CD thing" is a perma bug? and I have purchased the Hard disk option to maximize my 'giant mp3' player.

This was posted on the CDAdapter.com site years ago. It list the steps needed to get the CCC to a current build status. Please note the current version of software on this CCC is 4.3.

• Many unexplained symptoms can usually be related to an outdated Central Control Computer EPROM version or an old revision circuit board without the component updates. Some of these problems appear randomly, especially when they are triggered by an electrical disturbance such as flickering fluorescent lights, nearby neon signs, static electricity and electrical storms. Here’s what you can look for ...
~ EPROM program version on the Central Control Computer board, at component position U15, should be at least V4.1
~ Lithium battery BT1, should be at least 2.7 volts or higher
~ Replace any blinking fluorescent lights and starters
~ Check for the following updates on the Central Control Computer board
1) Change C17 from .1uF to .01uF
2) Change R1 from 470 to 150 ohms
3) Change R2 from 330 to 100 ohms
4) Change R13 from 1K to 10K ohms
5) Change R37 from 150K to 470K ohms
6) Add .01uF cap (C40) across R91
7) Change R66 from 100 to 1K ohms
Add two 100 ohm resistors (R92 & R93) in series with Rowelink plug signals


If you not comfortable doing this update, buy a working board on Ebay for $20 bucks.

I only found 4.0 in simple web search is 4.1/4.3 somewhere?

For the latest software, you must use a larger memory size eprom: 1mb.

You need to replace the original 28 pin IC socket with a 32 pin IC socket and a 27C010-12 eprom (Jameco Electronics # 266095).

I was in the middle of updating (Microsoft) one of my secondary computers at the time and could not use my main computer when I replied earlier. Once that machine was finished with it's updates, I could put it away and set up my regular main computer. That's the one I have the Rowe CD100 software files stored.

Yea I just didn't know why it was hard to find.. Like why is 4.0 online but 4.x wasn't. I didn't know if there was some secret club rule I didn't know about.

Only for the record, i find this beautifull machine from the trash, some friend of mine ask me to help him with the transport of junk to a trash yard and the junk was a Rowe AMI CD51 (cd100inside)! So i say no way man this go to my home (i am a restoration hobyst and electronic technician), one year before i complete the task, god as new, incredible sound and beautyfull look, consider i am in Bolivia and can be so hard find the parts here, ok now i have the manuals and a working CD51 for a few years but days ago stop working and give me a RAM error mesage, i have the v3.6 ROM so i think upgrade can solve the problem changing the IC un the procces may be? By the way do you know exactly what kind of EEPROM i need for v4.3? My CCC is a 40832220 and already has a 32 pin sockett so i can find a new IC here and write it with the new ROM.

What problem(s) are you having ? The 3.6 chip was a good one--later chips to 4.1 just have "added features"--4.2 is a "bad" version. 4.3 is identical to 4.1, except for default pricing.

Thanks for answering Ron, i am happy to say "there is no more problem!" just a nice battery holder (from an old PC board) and a new cr2032 (most common 3v battery for this purposes here), a bit of cleaning of course, reassembly and works like a charm, I don't know what happened cose I test the battery voltage in the old one and was 3.0v so I think was not the battery, any way it's solved now, for information the problem was a RAM error message during the RAM test at starting (turn on the machine) sorry but I don't remember the code.
Now I go for some updating, by the way the CCC was already with the mentioned updates on this post so I only want a volume and cancel buttons in front and some way to connect an mp3 player or smartphone because I use the machine on my living room, without modifying the original design or doing at minimum as possible (i like original), when the job is done I will post some pictures here for the community, if any one have or want some ideas they are welcome.

Glad it's working ! I would assume, that your memory was corrupted, and when you changed the battery it did a total re-set/re-write.
( which you can do without removing the battery--see the service manual)
