So I picked up a DS100 for a decent price because it had the ear speakers and a few other non-essential pieces I was missing on my DS160, so I got it home and took the parts I wanted an put them on my 160 with the plan of just parting this machine out but I just can’t do it so this is going to be the start of my restore thread.

Things I have done so far are
1. Degrease the whole mechanism remove clutch clean it up and re lubricate the mechanism.
2. Took apart the whole mechanism chassis and cleaned it up, lightly sanded it and repainted it, I didn’t want to lose the original record rack location sticker so I just carefully cleaned that up.
3. Cleaned up the electrical selector
4. My TSU had a blown transformer so I found a clean rebuild one

After powering up the TSU with my dim bulb tester to make sure it in fact was good I hooked up the selector and my mechanism and made some selections and it is running like a champ. Next on the list I am going to redo the cabinet, this will take me a bit of time but I will update the tread with my progress.

Did you re-cap the TSU and amplifier? That machine is certainly old enough to need it.

TSU is done, the amp will be the last thing I will do. And Ron, I am not to ambitious this is more preventative as it will stop me from buying another pinball machine at least for a while!!

Cabinet Side’s sanded and bottom corners patched up, alone with the back around the door, will start working on the interior of the cabinet after that it should be ready for paint.

Have the base color down, so far so good.

Cabinet main colors are down, I have always liked the way the Q series looks with everything matching in the interior so I decided to make the interior of mine gold.

Thats funny I try to do as little as possible cosmetically as I try to keep everything original, but the paint was planking so bad that when you touched it it just fell off. Got some blue laid down, I have some overspray of white so I will be touching up the cabinet but that's no big deal.

Got the lettering done tonight, after a day I will have to go through it and touch it up a bit but I think it looks good.

I am a bit awestruck with the quality of the paint job you've done -particularly the graphics. Did you do the lettering freehand?

These later tube models were generally given nothing more than a quickie "restore" on Tenth Ave, the sides were either redone with heavy vinyl contact paper or vinyl floor tile.

Awe-some !! I too would like to know how you did the lettering--When I was doing, them our "art guy" made up a stencil that he used.

I shake like an earthquake so there is definitely no free hand here the stripes where masked off with 3M blue painters tape and I did have stencils made for both the Logo and the Crown I was happy with the logo it’s about half inch short but the crown will need some tweaking but I only paid $28 bucks for the set so overall I am happy with them.

I’m more concerned after putting in the time with what I planned on doing with the crown, I was going to paint the whole crown white and shoot it lightly with the gold flake but after putting in all this work I am having seconds thoughts.
