Continental Carousel keep turning

Hi,

I have a Continental 1 and the carousel continies to turn for a minute or two after the record stops playing.

It used to complete (about) 1 turn and stop, however now it runs for a few minutes.

Any ideas what I need to look for?

Regards

"Gordo" your scan control is probably slipping. It is located just upstage of the pop meter. It has a gear and coil along with a micro-switch.

On these older changers (pre 1100 series) the unit is belt coupled (IIRC) and this is not unusual.

I have the original parts - service catalogs for the late 50's AMI changers. When I finally dig them out I'll scan and host them.

Guy's,
Rob is correct, but it is more of a "wheel", or "sleeve" then belt--the rubber is worn out--do NOT attempt to "adjust" for this--change the part !
Hildegard Stamann has already posted this ( and sells the replacement rubber part). Check the "announcements" section above--"where to find".

Thanks for the advice. I have the service manual, however, it looks difficult to reach.

Is it a difficult job to replace the belt?

Also, I looked up the website you suggested and it is in German. Is there an English version?

Regards and thanks

Hello Gordo,

there is no real English version of our webshop but most items are translated into English as well.
Our online shop can be found here: http://www.jukebox-world.de/shop/index-englisch.html

And this is the link for the scan-control belt:

@ Ron,
sleeve or belt - it depends on the mechanism used:
AMi mechanism 900 - 960 use a little rubber sleeve for the scan control. These are usually model G200 to J and early K models (those with stepper as a standard)
AMi mechanism 980 and 985 use a belt. These are usually later K and Continental models (no stepper as a standard anylonger).

Thanks to all for advice.

I think it is the belt slipping. I have ordered a replacement.

I have not removed the part, however a spring slipped off and it is working now. I think the spring eased the tension so the belt stopped slipping. Once it arrives I will replace it (and refix the spring).

Thanks again to everyone for the assistance, I would never have worked this out.

Hi,

The new belt has arrived. I slid the mech back and then got a bit scared to change the belt. The original is definately slipping.

Am I correct, that the lower drive for this belt is attached to a long (about 8" to 10") rod?

It looks like the way to change this lower end of the belt is to remove a short (1") section of red hose with a clamp on either end, that connects the rod to a motor at the rear. I was worried it would break as it looks a bit brittle.

Is this the correct way to proceed?

Any help appreciated.

Regards
