Hi

I have imported a non working Seeburg 222 that I will be restoring, it is currently being cleared in customs and should be delivered later this week.
I have had new side glasses and a new 50hz gear packed with the machine as I am located in Sydney Australia.
I have purchased Ron Rich's Seeburg mechanism guide to help with the restoration.
I am an electrical instrument technician by trade but vintage jukeboxes is new to me.
I have a few questions that I hope the group can help me with, I'm sure there will be many more over the restoration.
I need to buy a stepdown transformer to convert 240 volt to 110 volt is it worth the extra cost of buying a fully isolating transformer?
I have seen references on websites that a wireless volume remote is available I think it was made by Vern Tisdale is this still available?
Any advice or guidance will be gratefully accepted.
This restoration will be a complete tear down so will take me quite a while.

John, I don't see the need for an iso-tran, the machine electronics are fully transformer isolated. A ground lead should be added to the mains plug (if not already there).

Before buying a step down tran, have you checked out the availability of frequency/power convertors? These machines typically draw about 250 watts when playing so a 500W convertor would do. This would eliminate the need for gear change (a royal PIA) and eliminate any additional motor and transformer heating and DC filtering issues -though these are minimal.

A convertor with -full wave- sine is best here.

The wireless remote was sold by Vern Schmidt, Appleton, Wis. jukeboxeverynight.com . He also sells freeplay adapters (not the cheezy ones) and also adapters to completely replace the C.C.C in Seeburgs A-LS2's if you don't care about ever using coin .
I'm not sure if he still has the wireless remote volume control. I bought one, but it's probably been 10 yrs.

I sell all (stock some) of Vern Schmidt's products--yes, he still makes the wireless remote and the GOOD, free play adapters/replacement credit units (depends on which model phono you need one for) .
As for advice on the best way to go on the transformer, why don't you check with Erwin Boot: flamrecs@bigpond.net.au, as he probably can use his experience to recommend what works best there- Ron Rich

Robert thanks for the contact, I sent Vern an email through Ebay, he still has the free play adapters for sale but doesn't sell the wireless volume controls anymore.
He indicated that he may redevelop one in the future but has no immediate plans.
Ron I recently purchased your guide of Erwin I will send him an email asking what works best in Oz.

Quick update jukebox is now completely stripped a million photos taken to reassemble.
Time to assess what repairs and parts are required.
Both amp and selector require rebuilding looks like someone has had a go at repairing the selector reciever as there is a note inside saying that the power transformer is defective?
Also the unit arrived with no stylus/ needle any recommendations on a replacement?

Once again--contact Erwin--he sells the new stylii, and he probably can direct you to someone who rebuilds transformers--

Since it looks like you have the original black stereo cart (the following year they were red -but same cart) these are the needles for it:

These are available from several sellers internationally but all come from the same manufacturer.
They are expensive, however if you set up the arm to track at no more than 3 gm and wash the records before loading and try to only use good vinyl disks the styli will be good for upwards of 4000 plays/side.

Well, the supplier Rob listed says he has the "all new production" needles, however the photo is of the old, poor production, version !
I am pretty sure Erwin sells only, the new production ones.

Yep--back around 1964/5, I paid 15 CENTS, a gallon, for gas too--course I was only making about $65.00 per month ( in the US Army)---

The jukebox turned up with no cartridge or needle so I can buy a black or red cartridge (stereo) and purchase a pair of needles from Erwin?
