Question about MW Airline model#GAA-2641A

by Bud » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:54 pm

I recently acquired a Montgomery Ward Airline model#GAA-2641A. When I plugged it in everything fired up....all the lights, tubes. Phonograph works and spins without any issues. Here's my problem...absolutely no sound come out! I have tested the speakers and they work fine. But the unit doesn't even emit a hum, be it on FM,AM, or Phono. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like one of the following:
- A fuse blew
- The rectifier tube is not working
- The power output tube is not working.
- The transformer is not supplying high voltage
- A filter capacitor is shorted.

Thanks for the help... it is truly appreciated. I will certainly check out all of your suggestions. Anyone know where I can find a detailed schematic for this stereo? The one that is posted on the back of the unit is pretty vague...just shapes and numbers. I can't tell the difference between a rectifier tube and a power output tube! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks again!

That's the tube location chart, not the schematic. It tells you where the tubes go on the chassis, so you don't put the wrong tube in a socket.

Look for a Sam's Photofact on it. EBay often has them listed.

If you list the tubes, I can tell you what they do.

Hi, Try Nostalgiaair.org for the schematic. If the tubes are lighting you are getting voltage. The speaker maybe gone or the output tube. I cant see a fuse bad as most of the ole stuff just fuse the main Ac. Without checking the plate voltages ect.. it's hard to say what else it may be. If you need any help after you get the data let me know.
