I am not sure if it is just me, but I honestly think that an Amberola cylinder machine outshines all the disc and cylinder machines. I notice sounds on my Amberola that seem to be unheard on disc machines.

I have an Amberola 30, a common model, but this machine is nice.

The 30 is a great little machine. I think mine sounds great, although it stands to reason, the 50 would sound better, because of the larger horn. Not having heard a 50, I'm not sure just how much the larger horn alters the tone & volume. I Still find I use my Home B, with Dia/B reproducer & 12 panel Triumph horn more than my 30 though. I'm hoping to get a 12 panel cygnet horn for my standard soon, so I'll have to see how it compares to the straight horn. A nice music master horn would be the best sounding of all, but they're way out of my price range.

I have an Amberola 50 that I purchased last year from a fellow member here. It is a fantastic phonograph. I wouldn't part with for all the tea in China! As with any phonograph sound depends a great deal on the records. I have a few pretty crappy BAs I am ultimately a Victrola person though. Although HMV has a little piece of my heart now as well. I do think a good Amberola beats most DD phonos any day.

I do think a good VTMCo. Batwing or early Scroll will on a good machine with a good Sound-Box will beat just about anything out there.

I am 22 and in college, and this is my first machine a amberola 30 it fits nice in my dorm. i have 11 cylinders and they play good i heard a edison diamond disc machine it does not sound as good as amberola. amberola's sound more real. the music feels more in the room
i have had lots of fellow students visit my dorm to see the machine almost half of them wanna buy it or want one. i think ppl are wanting machines now why the craze?

I think one reason for the interest is simply cylinder records are now so far removed from the public consciousness that most people have never seen or heard a cylinder phonograph (Even the acoustic disc phonograph is fading rapidly from our collective memory.). I'd assume that for most visitors to your digs, that is the very first time they've ever seen or heard an Blue Amberol cylinder. For many it's simply the novelty of it. Hopefully for at least a few, seeing and hearing your Amberola will spark an interest in learning a bit about what came before today musically and in general.
