Here's my first post:

Just got my first Jukebox. It's a Rowe R-89.
It doesn't work, I have error 30 in the CCC.

The OBA Control unit FAULT light is lite. (this won't matter if I set to free play will it?)
The CCC show Er 30, but the +8vdc light is on.
And none of the Mechanism Control lights are on.
The carousel will spin when I press the test: Scan and Cancel.

The machine does light up, the dancing lights work.
You can select a record, but then nothing happens.

I did re-solder all pins last night, hoping it was just a cold solder joint.
(On the CCC, OBA (did have cold solder jounts), and the Mechanism Control)

So I am worried about the error 30 (related to the Opto?)
and the fact that nothing is lite on the Mechanism Control board/unit.
I am familiar with Optos in a pinball machine, is it similiar?

Suggestion/guidance please!

My suggestion would be for you to purchase, and read, the service manual--I know that I must know exactly what something should do before I can determine if it is operating as it should, or not---FYI there is a list of places to purchase it above in the announcement section---Ron Rich

I just got the manual in the mail today. I ordered it ahead of time.
Why do they not put the CCC error codes in the manual.
Does anyone have a list of them?

Your optical switch missed a pulse. Check for multipule errors.

So tonight, I removed the Opto, cleaned and tested it. It is working.
I also remove the power supply, tested the fuses inside and re-soldered the pins on that board.
Then playing around, I could trigger the gripper arm, to grab a 45, place it, then Tone arm would
move over the 45 and then back to the home position. I have a video on my arcade blog on this.

So now I focused on the Mechanism Control. During different testing, I was able to get every LED to
light except the TT Motor, Nothing I did would spin the TT motor or light the LED.

How do I further test this? Does this all go back to the CCC now?

Welcome to the forum.

I watched your video clip where you flick round the transfer motor, this is hardly a test of any worth.
What happens when you have credit, have selected a record, what happens?

The Error codes are not in the R-89 manual, it could have been that the manual was rushed out to meet production, I would buy a R-90, R-91, R-92 manaual for the addditional information.

Have you reset all the error codes?

Have you done the opto switch adjustments both the mechanical & electronic? also what colour is the plug on the opto switch?

What are your voltages at the power suppy unit, are they the same at the service switch and on the side molex plug on the mechanism?

If you let us have some of the information above we may be able to help you.

My video was just showing that atleast something works mechanically!! It's the small things.
You are right about the manual, there's not even a CCC schematic in there.
Makes it pretty hard to trouble shoot it.
When I make a selection - NOTHING happens, it's on free play.
The Opto switch is black
My voltage at the power supply and CCC is good, but maybe I should test it more.

I'm going to try a few more things tonight and then will probably ship the CCC, Mech and Opto off to Bruce to test them properly.

Ok I asked what colour the plug was on the opto switch not the colour of the opto!
I wanted to make sure someone had not fitted the wrong opto! RED is correct WHITE is wrong.

When you put the service switch into service and press the CANCEL button on the mechanism/carousel what happens?

I'm 99.9% sure it had a white plug, NOT red.
I will do the other test when I get home from work tonight.,

Hi Steve,

As a follow up to the topic what number is on the Mechanism Control Unit board. It will be 4-07221- it is what is after the - I am interested in they go from -01 to -07 I am interested if yours is -05 or above and has the index and home adjustment timmers on the board, these are located in the top righthand corner of the MCU.
It is not clear from your video.

To close this thread, the Jukebox is now up and running!!!
It was a bad CCC, replaced it and everything else is now working.

Hello Steve,

I am glad to hear that you have got the R-89 working, I see from your video that you need to repair the "Selections Playing" portion of display board there is a a missing section on the first display chip.

Hey Alan, did you mean the 'Selections Remaining'?
There is a line out on the first digit, the Selection Playing looked ok to me.
Hopefully its as easy to replace/repair as they LCDs are in pinball machines.

Hello Steve,

Sorry I ment Selections Remaining, these are not easy to replace because the display board if my memory serves correctly there is tracks on both sides of the board. In the UK I have had difficulty getting the chips, you will require the correct number, it is usually marked on one end.
