Hi James,
IF, the black/gray boxes are in fact, OK, you have a wright-in problem, either in the DES, or, the DCC (or wiring harness ).
I have written a "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide", that should help you determine where this problem is--and how to fix it. PM me, if you wish to purchase it.

I have replaced both boxes with known good ones, no luck. followed chart 4 in micro log troubleshooting guide. leads to DRD1. checked power at DCC. All voltages read within 1v or less of required, as per guide. Pulling format plug J3110 durning scan and plugging it back causes trip and play. charging J3110 Tormat plug causes all records to play. resistance is 2.25 ohms. 57volts on read scanning. readout voltage does dip on selection then returns to previous state. checked all plugs and cleaned. any suggestions. Rich has writhed a great book.

Hi James,
Thanks for buying "several" of my books, but there are only two in print ?
Couple of questions--
1. Did you just acquire the phono, or have you had it and this problem just showed up ?
2. When you make a selection from the DES, does the mechanism start scanning ?
3. Will it select on ANY of the "scratch test" numbers ( In thee MicroLog Trouble Shooting guide) ?

This was my mom's box. sat in garage for 20+ years collecting dust.

On selection from DES unit scans , does not select

scratch test does not select.

checked input to receiver on pins for scratch test, reads 27v, no dip on input from DES.

appears Tormat does not get write in pulses. I know input is in millisecond time but tried to

read with Simpson 260 analog meter with 20k/v impedance. not sure if that will work. Do not have a o-scope.

James,
IF, you are 100 % sure the read out is OK (Picks EVERY selection when charged with the D cell), and the scratch tests yield nothing when done using the DRD connector to the DCC, ( and you said you have WI voltage), I would strongly suspect DRD problems.
What is the date on it ? Also, as you said--check plugs--the single pin, "WI return" plug, by the DRD is the #1 suspect.
No way I know of to read it with a Simpson, or any other meter---Ron Rich

The Apollo LS3 is dated 1970, the DRD1 is dated 1975. was there any changes between the 1970 and 1975 DRD1? The DRD1 I have swapped

were all 1975. and there were no change in symptoms, scan , does not select. I heard that the difference in age of DRD1 may have an effect.

Hi James,
There is a note about 1975 (warranty) dated DRD-1, gray boxes, in my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide".
However, they tended not to have the problem you describe--Early, "code dated", versions, did have this problem !
Did you check the above list ?--Is there a possibility that the TMU to DRD plug is inserted up-side down ?

After rechecking everything the last thing I found was that the Tormat finger contacts were off the Tormat by 3/4 of a nipple. realigned and it works perfectly now.

If grounding pin 15 will not cause the scan add coil to energize, you have two bad scan boards, or a bad plug, somewhere in that system-- also, the possibility exists that you have a "ground loop" problem --see the DCC service notes in my Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide. Ron Rich
