Zenith phonograph

by Johnmansmom99 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:26 am

I need a little help. I have had this phonograph in my family for as long as I can remember. It is mine now, but I have no idea when it was made and so on. I have a Model #-SFD2503. It also has a cobra head for an arm. Can anyone help me out with this.

Can't tell you exactly, but the WurliTzer jukebox first used the Zenith Cobra in 1948. It was used for about 10 years--till "stereo" 45rpm records came out--I assume that the Cobra system was invented during or very near WW II--Before or after ? Ron Rich

It dates to 1960/1.

Zenith used the name "Cobra-Matic" on its products from the time it first included record changers until the late 1960s. It wasn't a single arm, pickup, or technology.

Interesting--I was refering only to the "Cobra Cartridge", and related electronics, to power it in the WurliTzer.
They used the word "Cobra" and a tone arm that looked like the head of a Cobra, under license from Zenith--but I don't think that the term "Cobramatic" was ever used-- I will look at the decal the next time I see one--Ron Rich
