Brunswick Panatrope

I am seeking information on a Brunswick Panatrope, Exponential type. I don't know what year it is and it needs some work, but it has the crank and needle head is broke, but I think all the pieces may be there. Any idea what year it is and what it might be worth?

Is there a Metal Tag near the Turntable with a model name on it?

Value will largely depend on the cabinet style. As Qbrew says, there should be a metal tag on the motor board which says which model it is. Alot also depends where in the world you are, & of coarse condition.. Brunswicks aren't all that popular with collectors for some strange reason. Personally I think they're every bit as good as a Victor/HMV, and if in good condition, they sound really good. Mine sounds almost as good as my big HMV re-entrant! It lacks some of the base responce of the HMV, but sounds better than my other cabinet HMV's.

I have one that has been in storage. I dissaembled it due to broken leg in base. It is 100% complete. I have not plugged it in, not knowing if electronics are good. I would like to sell it if anyone is interested. I also have a about 30 78s to go with it.

As far as the year is concerned, the acoustic Brunswick Panatropes were probably built between 1925 and 1928. I have two: a Brunswick Cortez with electric motor and a Brunswick Panatrope model P-9 with a crank. The Cortez is probably 1925-26 and the P-9 is probably 1927-28. Like Victrola Orthophonic machines, Brunswick started out with Spanish/Italian model names like Cortez and Credenza, then switched to alpha-numeric names, like the P-9.

I have a Panatrope Lorraine in very good condition that was purchased a few years ago for $90. I haven't seen any sell recently to know of current value, but I really enjoy the sound of mine. They truly are a good sounding machine and I wouldn't give mine up for anything (almost ). If you purchase it and need some parts, I might be able to help you.
