Rockola/Wurlitzer 54910-A System 2 problem

by Cherrytree » Wed Oct 28, 2015 5:26 pm

Hi,
I have a Rockola/Wurlitzer 54910-A.
It was purchased in NYC about 20 yrs ago and then was in storage for about 10 years. It was working fine, until now. It will not move past the "initializing/lock-in". None of the buttons on the system control work, nor does the "scan" function. I read on the forum that this may be a battery problem. Is there any other possible cause/solution? I did remove the cover of the "System 2 Control Unit" and did not see any battery. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Well,
Since there is no such thing as a "RockOla/WurliTzer", and I have no idea what that number is, I'm guessing that you have a RockOla 1000.
If that is the case, and you have the S-2 computer, the battery is located BETWEEN the two boards. I strongly suggest that wires be extended and the new battery be installed outboard the computer ! If the battery has not leaked, you can probably get away with changing it--

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, and deducing which Jukebox I was referring to. As I'm sure that you know, some of these Rockolas have Wurlitzer painted on the exterior glass, as is the case with mine.
Cheers

Update: I'm happy to report that it did not seem to be a battery issue. As I was dismounting the S2, it occurred to me that the connectors might just be loose. I disconnected them and reconnected them and now it works fine.

Glad you fixed it--however I STRONGLY urge you to remove the battery and connect it "outboard" as these are prone to leakage, and once started, nearly impossible to fix--
As for the name WurliTzer, on a RockOla phonograph--It did NOT come from the RockOla factory with that on it---
( the cabinet jigs, and die's, as well as some, "left over parts" were sold by WurliTzer, to a Mexican company, that put "Sonata" on the glass,on some, others just blank. RockOla then purchased only the cabinet jigs, and called it a "1000 Nostalgia" model) Ron Rich
